An Anxious Generation – Coping with Anxiety

I have this continuous feeling of being underwater. I am always in a rush, I never feel there is enough time in a day. I have to get my work done, go to the gym, cook my dinner and attend to my household choirs. When I get home from work, my evenings seems to slip away and before I know it, it is 11 o’clock and time for bed. During the day my mind plays out all the tasks I have to finish when I get home and at night my mind plays out all the duties I have to attend to at work. Then it spirals into a digression…

What Does My Sweat Really Mean? Am I Out of Shape?

Photo By : Francesco Gallarotti The other day, I went to a spin class with a friend. When we got out of class, she told me that the last time we came she was so out of shape, but she barley sweat. She was surprised that this time, she felt her body was in better shape, however she sweat way more than usual. She asked me if this is a reflection of her fitness level. Personally, I can never leave spin without looking like I just got out of the shower, so excessive sweating is normal to me. However sweating is not necessarily an accurate gauge to determine how fit you may or may…

    Current Obsession: Adult Colouring Books

Every time I am at a restaurant with children colouring sheets, I insist that I get one. Rainy days seem incomplete without tea and a colouring session with my girl friends. I have noticed in the last few months that adult colouring books has become a huge trend. There are quite a few detail oriented colouring books that have entered the market; colouring books for all different skill levels and different images that cater to various interests.  If you haven’t noticed I am huge advocate for colouring. As a child, colouring is beneficial to stimulate imagination and fine tunes motor skills. Like most skills in order to maintain them, you must continue to use them. Colouring is a good way to…

    Using Break Time More Effectively

Photo By: Rayi Christian Wikasono Settling into a new job is always a bit nerve racking. My main struggle right now is break time. Usually, in my old position, we rarely ever took our full lunch breaks. We would chit chat at our desks while we ate our lunches and then when we are finished, we would go back to work. On my first, they told me to make sure I take my full hour lunch everyday. I have no idea how to fill a full hour of “me time”. On my first day I sat outside, scrolled my social media feeds on my phone and enjoyed the sunshine. I…

What Does Your Egg Yolk Mean

Photo by: Justus Kindermann My boyfriend and I have had a repetitive argument about eggs. A carton of organic free-range, grain-fed farm eggs usually costs around $7. For the run-of-the-mill Omega 3 mass produced egg carton it usually costs $4. It is quite a significant price difference. He refuses to splurge on the “fancy” eggs, and I scold him every time he comes home with the cheapest eggs he can find. My mom did organic before organic was cool. She always instilled in us that any antibiotics or hormones that were in our food would effect our health as well. Buying organic can be pricey, but if it is something that I eat…

    How to Beat Cold Season

Photo: David Mao The time has come for sniffy noses and sore throats. There is nothing worse than being under the weather. Cold season is fast approaching, so I like to gear up my immune system.  Prevention Stage Once you have a cold, the only thing you can do is ride it out. The key to not getting sick is catching it early. If I get warning signs of a cold, or I have been in contact with sick people there are a few products that I rely on: Airborne is an immune system booster, which is perfect to take if you are around a co-worker with a cold.  Echinacea…

The Best Free at Home Workout Videos

The hardest part of working out for me, is actually getting to the gym. Once I am there, I am usually ready to go. Some days I am just famished when I get off work or I don’t get a good enough sleep the night before and I really can’t push myself to go into the gym. This is when I turn to at home workouts. It is an easy convenient way to get some exercise in.  I have discovered many different websites for workouts. I am partial to videos, because I tend to want to follow along with the video, rather than work through a prescribed workout on my own. Working out at home is…

Snacks – PB & Chocolate Banana Bites

I have the worst sweet tooth. It seriously takes over, meals never seem complete unless I have dessert. My lady time is the worst, all I want is chocolate and ice cream…or both. I am not picky at all. I have really let the summer take over, so I finally took control and decide to start preparing some healthier alternatives. I first saw this snack on Instagram, I can’t remember the user, but figured I could easily concoct this on my own. Ingredients 2 Bananas 1  Tablespoon of Coconut Oil All Natural Peanut Butter 3/4 Cup of Dark Chocolate Chips Materials Knife Baking Sheet Wax paper/ Tinfoil Double boiler …

Seawheeze 2015 – What to Know When Training for a Half Marathon

Got a very nice karat today! It is over! Today I completed my first half marathon. I was very nervous, especially because the summer has gotten the best of me. I feel like every weekend I have been going out of town or having visitors. I enjoy being active, but  I have never been much of a long distance runner. The most I usually run is around 10 KM, and even then I am struggling. Today I set the goal that I did not want to walk, I just wanted to run the whole way. My time today was 2:22, which I am happy with. I mostly just wanted to prove to myself…

    Back on Track

Summer has totally snuck up on me. I was busy all winter and then I left for Europe and there was no looking back. Fitness definitely got put on the back burner. Now that I am back summer is in full swing and my beach body….well…isn’t. Music festivals are just around the corner and I know that there will be no time then to make it a priority. I have still been active but not as active as I would like. I used to gym 5 – 6 times a week and now I am lucky if I get a gym session in three times a week. I have been feeling…
