Hiking Spots in the Kelowna

The Okanagan will always feel like my home. Even though I spent the majority of my childhood growing up in Ontario, it only took a couple years for the Westcoast to feel more like home. I have always had jobs where I spend the majority of my time indoors so on my weekends snowfall or sunshine I like to head outdoors. There are quite a few options in the Okanagan area to check out. Since my family and I lived in Kelowna for many years, I spent a lot of my time exploring the hiking paths around the area. It wasn’t until I moved away from Kelowna that I felt like I missed out exploring all the other areas of the Okanagan that we were once my next door neighbour. This list are all the spots that have been good to me over the years.

Myra Canyon Trestles

Time of year to visit: Spring/Fall/Summer
Duration: 2- 3 hours, can always turn around
Difficulty: Easy
Location:4675 June Springs Road, Kelowna BC

This one is a good one for a leisurely hike. It is about a twenty to thirty minute drive out of town and a portion of the drive is on a dirt road. The views are amazing. I find it a bit boring, since for the most part it is a flat path. I usually take my bike up there and bike along the path; this way you can cover more ground.

Knox Mountain

Time of year to visit: All year round
Duration: 1- 2 hours
Difficulty: Intermediate
Location: 621 Broadway Ave, Kelowna Bc

A classic but a good one. I have been going to Knox with my dog for years. The hike never gets boring. If you want more of a challenge you can try to run straight up the hill. There is a nice area but the water. I think of it as more of a dog beach than a swimming whole. It is a really easy drive about ten minutes from the downtown core.

Canyon Falls or Crawford Falls

Time of year to visit: All year round
Duration: 1- 2 hours
Difficulty: Intermediate – Difficult
Location: Canyon Ridge Crescent, Kelowna BC

This is an amazing spot, the actual hike around the area is nice and leisurely but to get to the falls you are basically rappelling down a rock face…okay maybe that is a little bit of an over exaggeration. The view of the waterfall is breath-taking so it is worth the risk. I would only try it when the ground is dry, unless you have the proper equipment to try and tackle it in the winter time.

West Kelowna also have quite a few hiking trails to check out! Did I leave out your favourite spot? Let me know in the comments below where your favourite spots is in the Okanagan!
