Life Lessons from Sex in the City

‘Sex in the City’ was more about friendships than it was about hooking up in New York. “They say nothing lasts forever; dreams change, trends come and go, but friendships never go out of style.”-Carrie Bradshaw really understood the importance of having a strong support system and girlfriends, who no matter how different they are, still stand by each other sides. The added sex-escapades were just an bonus.

Your Girlfriends Are the Ones You Can Count On

My boyfriend is my best friend, but so was the boyfriend I had from 2005 – 2006 or the one I had in 2011 – 2012, and so on and so forth. The relationship I have with my girlfriends is something that remains constant. They have got me through rough break ups, offered much needed career advice and been the subject of all of my favorite adventures. Charlotte is right ” Maybe our girlfriends are our soulmates and guys are just the people we have fun with.”

No One Wants to Be the Old Lady That Lives in Her Shoe

The designer clothes were what made “Sex in the City”, each episode was basically an issue of Vogue.Carrie showed us that shopping problems are a real thing. It was probably the one and only time that I liked Miranda. It is important to build a life for yourself, beyond having nice clothes and going to fancy parties.

Cheating isn’t Black and White

Good people cheat, bad people cheat, it is not always black and white. Sex in the City showed cheating in a complex, real life way. There are so many reasons that people cheat. Carrie cheated on Aiden, even though he seemed like the most amazing guy in the world. We hated her for it, but in the end we understood why it happened. When you cheat it does not mean you are a bad person and when you are cheated on it does not mean you are not worthy. Usually the situation is much more complicated.

There is Always Going to Be That Guy

We all have a Mr.Big, that doesn’t offer us the fairy tale romance that maybe we were hoping for. He is the one that makes us cry, tends to do the wrong things and usually ends up disappointing us. He is the guy that may not be the right guy for us at that moment but if we are lucky, turns out to be the right guy down the road.

Not every women is the same, the characteristics that Miranda sees in Steve, are completely different from what Charlotte sees in Harry, and what Samantha sees in herself. You can build the right life for you, no matter what outsiders think of it.

You Can Be Sane and Act Crazy

It happens, we all have those moments where we are crazy. Where we have to run into our exes new fling at the worst possible time or when you find out that your ex is dating a girl that would wear a scrunchie (this less of a faux pas than a couple years ago). “Sex in the City” taught me that human emotions are inevitable, the cringe worthy moments were what made the show so close to reality. We have all been in similar situations.

Love Yourself Fist

The story told on “Sex in the City” goes beyond dating and friendship, but personal development. Evolving and growing as people. “The most exciting, challenging, significant relationship of all  is the one you have with yourself. And if you find someone to love the you you love, well that’s fabulous.” Self love is the most important love to have in your life!

30. ‘Somewhere out there is another little freak who will love us and understand us and kiss our three heads and make it all better’. Carrie
