Medium Rare Top Sirloin Roast

My go-to meal when trying to make a nice dinner is a prime rib roast. I use the same method every time and it comes out amazing. The weather has been changing and it has me crazing comfort food. Prime rib while always tasting amazing is quite pricey, so I decided to try making a sirloin-tip roast. In the pasts, my attempts have been very unsuccessful. The meat is either completely overdone or tasteless. I think I have finally found the magic recipe for a tender and flavourful roast, no slow cooker required. I stumbled upon this recipe on Frugal Mom Eh’s blog and it is pretty amazing. I was so pleased with myself after this meal prep and no complaints from my significant other.

Sirloin Tip Roast Recipe

Cooking Time: 2 hrs

Ingredients:
1 tsp white pepper
2 tsp dried basil
2 tsp chile powder
1 tsp tumeric
1 tsp cumin
2 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp salt
2 pound Sirloin Tip Roast

2 tbsp olive oil

Directions:

  1.  Mix all the spices together along with a two tablespoon of olive oil in a small bowl.
  2. Heat up a cast iron pan to medium high.
  3. Cover the roast in the spice/oil mixture
  4. Place roast in the cast iron pan and brown each side for 1 – 2  minutes.  Place roast on baking sheet with rack
  5. Heat oven to 250 degrees
  6. Place meat thermometer in roast, then place on the middle of the rack of the oven.
  7. Leave the roast for about two hours. Check on roast after the first hour until the meat thermometer temperature reaches 65 degrees.
  8. Let roast sit for 10 minutes before serving.

I did take a few liberties with the original recipe. Since I have a gas oven, it does not tend to hold the heat as long a a regular oven would, so I skipped leaving it in the oven while it was off and just used the meat thermometer to gauge how cooked the roast was. This roast is seriously so easy and so delicious. The only downside to this cooking method is that there is no gravy, but the meat is quite juicy for you don’t necessarily need it.

Give the recipe a try and let me know what you think in the comments section. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
