Staying Healthy in Quarantine

All my tips and tricks to stay active and healthy during COVID-19 Times

I was doing barre classes every day, biking anywhere I needed to go and I intermittent fasting so I thought for sure I was nailing my COVID-19 routine. I was wrong, I went to put on my levis shorts from last summer and man were they tight! I think I may have gotten a little too relaxed with my diet and my drinking habits. Whoops! The last few weeks, I have been tightening things up so hopefully, when they let us all out, I will still fit in the majority of my clothes comfortably.

Morning Routine

Having a morning routine locked down had been my key to success. Do whatever feels good for you! A morning stretch, coffee in the bath, or an early morning run. The groundhog day effect has been real for me. Every day feels like the same day, but having a routine and a goal for the day, helps keep me motivated.

Stay Hydrated

When I am at the office I am always drinking water, but for some reason, drinking water at home does not come naturally to me. The nice thing about being at home is that everything can be fancier, so I have been adding berries, lemon wedges or cucumber slices to my water to really spice things up.

Stop Drinking Alcohol During the Week

I know its tough, 4:00PM rolls around and it seems like it should be cocktail hour, but fight the urge. I feel so much better when I save the calories for the weekend. I have less guilt and a clearer head the next morning.

Back to Whole30

I am the queen for testing out new eating trends and seeing how they fit with my lifestyle and my body. I intermittent fasted for years, and recently I have been dabbling with Whole30. The main purpose is to eat real foods with simple ingredients that are not processed.

Whole30 Prohibits:

  • Added sugars (real or artificial), so no maple syrup, honey or coconut sugar
  • Alcohol
  • Grains (including gluten-free grains)
  • Legumes
  • Dairy
  • Any baked goods for junk foods

The purpose is to figure out the food that may irritate your body and just do an overall reset. This has been my new quarantine strategy which is so easy because I am stuck at home. I know I promised to post some recipes on my Instagram but everything I have been making that is Whole30 just turns out to be not photogenic at all, so I am just linking some of my fave recipes here.

Fave Whole30 Recipes

Chicken Teriyaki

Cauliflower Tacos

Hot Wings

Sloppy Joes

Kimchi Fried Rice

Vegan Quesos

Kale Chips

Butternut Squash Fries

These are just a few that I have tried and enjoyed but I have filled my Pinterest with more meal prep ideas.

If you are feeling super lazy, because some of the meals take quite bit of prep. I would recommend buying vegan products, most of them abide by the Whole30 rules and make a good cheat. I love the Spread’em Kitchen Dips and Maison Orphee.

Exercise

This one, of course, is a given. There are so many ways to build an “at home gym”. Fill a duffle bag with books to use for squats, use wine bottles as weights, or get a skipping rope. There is always a way to move your body. YouTube is also an amazing resource.

Have an Accountability Partner

My bestie and I text each other before we go to bed each night to check in on our daily tasks. We make that every day we meditate, do 100 squats, and facial roll before bed. We have started to loosen up on the facial rolling, mainly because for some reason my skin started to break out! It really does helps us stay on track.

I know we are all going a little bit crazy, we miss human interaction, we miss our friends, we miss our social life, but it totally could be worse! All we have to do is stay home!
