A Healthy Start for 2016

It is hard to believe that today is the last day of 2015, this year has flown by. The beginning of a new year, usually promotes a fresh start; New year, new you, right? I already posted about my resolutions for 2016, although I prefer to call them my goals for the new year; Health and fitness is at the top of the list. It is really important to me, to feel good and have more energy in 2016. These are my tips for starting 2016 off on the right foot.

Remember to Move

I used to get up every morning and do a 10 – 15 minute at home workout on YouTube before I had a shower. Prior to that, I used to wake up at 5:30 AM and workout at the gym before heading to work. I love working out in the morning because it leaves my evenings free and I feel energized for the whole day. Now I can barley get up in the mornings and I keep going to bed later and later. For 2016, I strive to wake up and do at the very least a few stretches first thing in the morning to get my blood flowing. It was nice to not have to rely on coffee to give me energy for the day.

Try to Get in More Vegetables

If it worked for Miranda Lambert, it can work for you. Although I love vegetables, I usually find it hard to get in my daily recommended dose. Miranda Lambert hates vegetables and found the only way she could eat them was in fresh green juices. This is definitely a good option. There are plenty of health benefits to doing this, It is a good way to get a wider variety of nutrients, easier on your digestive system and helps keep your energy up.

Lemon Water to Start My Day

I have read numerous articles on how lemon water is the best way to start your day. It is so simple and easy. The hardest part is just remembering to do it daily so eventually it will turn into a routine. It wouldn’t hurt if I also stepped up my water consumption.

Don’t Give Up

I always tell myself the more far gone I get, the harder it is to get back. Getting back into shape is so difficult. I really have to coach myself to want to eat better and workout. I always dread that first run in a long time when my legs feel itchy or stop myself when I justify having my lady time as a good excuse for continuously indulging in fried chicken. Eating crappy foods, always makes me feel gross after. Eating well and exercising always leaves me feeling amazing, and I have to continuously remind myself that I am searching for that feeling and this is the only way to achieve that, is to be consistent.

Find Better On-The-Go Solutions

On the go is what kills me. When I have time to prep delicious nutritious meals, I usually don’t stray. When I am under a time crunch, that is when I tend to grab a slice of pizza. Being prepared is the only way to combat this. I bring oatmeal packets and a jar of peanut butter to leave at my desk at work. Oatmeal is a healthy and easy breakfast on the go, and if I grab a few apples, I can spread peanut butter on one and make an easy snack. Instead of turning to fast food, pick up a bag salad from the grocery store and pair it with a piece rotisserie of chicken.

One last night of debauchery, before I start 2016 with a delicious cold pressed juice. Happy New Year everyone!
