Vancouver gets to me every now and again, people everywhere I go, the hustle and bustle. It is nice to escape the city and have a sporadic weekend getaway. I always return home feeling completely recharged. I used to think I enjoyed camping, but as I got older I realized how much work it truly is. My ideal weekend is spent relaxing poolside, and if there is hiking near by, than that is an added bonus.
When I was living in Kelowna I thought that Sparkling Hill Resort was so close, so I had to make sure I visited it. It is a very interesting resort. The actual design of the resort is very over the top, crystals everywhere.
Vernon is such an unusual place, there is usually not much going on there, so it was strange to me that they situated this resort right on the outskirts. We spent the majority of our time at the resort.
Sparkling Hill Resort, is a little bit overpriced for what it is, but if you can get a good rate during the week then it is worth while checking out. When we went we did a girls weekend, we checked out the different saunas, ate at the restaurant, drank some cucumber waters and sat by the pool. The resort has an indoor pool and an outdoor pool which is nice. The tranquil environment it nice if you are looking to unwind.

Last year for my birthday my boyfriend surprised me with a Harrison Hot Springs getaway. I had been many years ago but I could not remember what it was like. My boyfriend it not much for spas, but I think he actually ended up needing the rest and relaxation more than I did.
We stayed at the Harrison Hot Springs Resort, but I don’t think I would do that again. The hotel is getting to be pretty rundown, and they charge for parking, which is crazy because parking is free pretty much everywhere else in Harrison. The good things about the resort is the huge breakfast buffet and that the facilities (pool and hot tubs) are open late. If I were to go again, I would stay at the newer hotel down the street and then just visit the public hot springs.
We spent our second date just exploring the nearby hiking trails. It is a nice getaway and so close to Vancouver, such an easy drive.
Whistler is a tough one, because it can be relaxing or it can be a complete gong show. Most people go to Whistler to have their bachelor or bachelorette parties. It is such a beautiful place and there are a lot of amazing hotels to stay in. Whistler is more connected to the outside world than Harrison or Sparkling Hill would be. It is the perfect in between because their is plenty of nice restaurants, as well as outdoor activities. My favorite hikes are twenty to thirty minutes drive from Whistler. There is also a lot of lakes to visit during the summertime. All year round there is a lot to keep you occupied.
It is always a nice feeling having an escape to look forward to, even if it is just for a few days. I try to plan one every couple of months. All getaways don’t have to involve hopping on a plane. It is nice to explore new surroundings close by, British Columbia is so beautiful and there is so many different places to experience.
